History

-India rubber craze sparked by rise of Telegraphy > Submarine cables, Velocipedes, which use them

-in 1860s, rubber uses spark upwards massively, inspires production in many places incl. Grao-Para

-massive amounts of slave labor occurs in this rising trade

-both of black and indigenous slaves

-canals, railroads created to bring out rubber

-due to import of slaves from Africa, France tries to cut it off through various slave raids, forces Portugal to look elsewhere France's Wars > Franco-Portuguese War (1871-2)

-slave trade from southern US, which replaces this, this only cut off by US's Wars > American Civil War (1869-76)

-after ACW ends, Richmondite exiles leave, many to Grao-Para

-however, slavery still declines (slowly)


-slave trade becomes massive controversy as it makes headlines

-US organizes campaign against this, culminates in US's Wars > Intervention in Grao-Para (1894-5)

-Grao-Para internationalized, governed by Council of Administration under International Forum governance
